In 1811, the Village of Deposit, then consisting of twelve houses, was incorporated. Near this site on the Delaware River, lumbermen "deposited" their logs to be made into huge rafts. During the times of high water, these logs were floated or "rafted" down the Delaware to the mills of Philadelphia and other tidewater communities.
From these beginnings, Deposit has grown into a vibrant and active community prepared to meet the challenges of the future while maintaining its small-town friendly atmosphere.
